Fireproofing Your Home

Is a house fire really something that you need to be worrying about? Is fireproofing your home necessary? Yes, it is. In fact, with the current state of the environment, wildfires and house fires are very common and they can destroy your home in an instant. In 2019, according to the National Fire Protection Association, there were 264,500 fires in the United States, causing 2,390 civilian deaths. Tragedies such as these are events no family or individual should have to go through. Fireproofing your home will prevent home fires from occurring. There are many steps that can be taken so that people can have peace of mind knowing that their home is protected.

Outside the Home

Protecting your house from a fire involves taking the time and even the money to invest in protection for your home.

  • Invest in fireproof glass which is double-panned and tempered to allow to absorb more heat without cracking or breaking.
  • Cover your outdoor walls with fire-resistant materials.
  • Upgrade siding to fire-resistant material such as concrete, stone stucco, or brick. Materials like this can take high levels of heat, therefore, helping to prevent fire from destroying your home.
  • Use non-combustible roofing materials to fireproof their homes. The best non-combustible roofing materials are slate, metal, concrete, clay, and copper. All of these materials have high melting points which can protect your home from fire.
  • Implement the 30-foot rule. The thirty-foot rule in fireproof housing relates to creating defensible space around the perimeter of your home. Keep items such as propane grills and outdoor heaters at least thirty feet from your home.

Inside the Home

Additionally, it is always good for homeowners to keep fire protective items inside the home as well. Smoke detectors allow alert to a fire and gives everyone in the house time to get out of the house or extinguish the fire before it’s too late. Also have a fire extinguisher in an accessible place so that fires can be put out before any destruction takes place.

Getting all of these things done to a home can be pricey and a lengthy process as well. But in the end, it is all worth it if it means that your home and everyone in it will be safe from the dangers of fire. By taking these precautions will provide improved safety from fire.
